Тип А MSS содержит требования, на основании которых организация может требовать соответствия, тогда как на основании стандартов типа В соответствие делать нельзя.

Чтобы заявить о соответствии стандарту, организации необходимо иметь доказательства соответствия требованиям. Сбор доказательств, как правило, осуществляется путем проведения аудита. Существует три типа аудита: первичный, вторичный и третичный. Первичный аудит предполагает внутренний аудит. Аудиты второго и третьего уровней могут повлечь за собой сертификацию: сертификация может проводиться только на основании документа, содержащего соответствующие требования.
